The 1/2 Hour News Hour Canceled

with 3 comments

The 1/2 Hour News Hour, described by creator Joel Surnow as “The Daily Show for conservatives” has been canceled after 15 episodes on the Fox News Channel. It scored a 12 out of 100 on Metacritic, which offers up these gems from critics:

  • In truth, there’s nothing wrong with partisan humor, as long as it’s actually funny. But here, even the less-political jokes are hopelessly obvious or old.
  • The humor is so predictable and so stale that it fails to produce any laughs.
  • It’s even worse than anyone imagined.

  1. I consider myself to be a liberal, but I have nothing againist humor that bites at liberals. A consertative humor show could be funny, because even though I’m a liberal, as the Colbert Report does well with making fun of some of consertative nonsense, there is plenty of liberal nonsense as well that could be poked at (example: PC nonsense). This show wasn’t funny though.

  2. Yeah, I liked the quote from the critic who said “There is nothing wrong with partisan humor, as long as it’s actually funny.” Daily Show and Colbert are as much a satire of the media as they are of politics, and maybe something like that just can’t exist on a news channel.

  3. its not that partisan humor can’t be done, its just that foxnews sucks at everything. especially news, but apparently also humor.
